The 2017-18 season marks Karen Kase’s 5th year as head coach of the girls basketball program at Medina and 7th year overall on the coaching staff.  Last year’s varsity team advanced to the District Finals after upsetting #1 ranked St. Joseph's Academy.  It was just the eighth time in school history that a team advanced that far.

In 2015-16, the Bees finished with a 15-9 record which included a third place GCC finish and a KSA Holiday Tournament Championship in Orlando, Florida.  Nine Medina players have gone on to play basketball in college over the past 6 years.

Kase, a 1995 graduate of MHS, played basketball, soccer and softball. She ranks fifth on Medina’s all-time girls basketball scoring list and was a starter on the 23-1 team that reached the regional semifinals in 1993.  Kase earned 11 letters in high school and was inducted into the Medina County Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.  She attended Xavier University and was a member of the soccer team for four years, helping the team to a first-ever NCAA appearance.  Kase graduated from XU with a BS in Sports Management & Business and earned a MS in Leadership in 2016 from Duquesne University.

Kase has been involved with basketball for most of her life – as a player, intern, front office employee, coach.  She spent 12 years in various sports marketing and public relations roles, including jobs with Xavier University, the PAC-10 Conference, Golden State Warriors, Phoenix Suns/Phoenix Mercury, Cleveland Cavaliers, Charlotte Sting and the NBA.  For four years, she oversaw basketball communications for the WNBA at the league’s headquarters in New York City and worked closely with media, teams, players and staff.
